Method & Sessions

The Method

Nearly 100 years ago, as a tool to improve his own health and help others age gracefully, Joseph Pilates developed the method we use today. It has been passed down through the generations to me through many of the finest instructors around the world. A lifelong learner, I continue to build my knowledge of the method by attending continuing education training and taking lessons.

Joseph Pilates believed that lifestyle, posture and breathing are the foundations of health. The training, exercises and equipment used in our sessions have been specifically engineered to apply his methods. His discipline, known as Contrology, consists of six core principles and an order of exercises to work the entire body. Our sessions encourage the use of the mind to control muscles –  focusing attention on the core postural muscles that keep the body balanced and provide support for the spine. We will learn awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, as we strengthen the deep torso and abdominal muscles. Much like the crescendo in a piece of music, Pilates should be dynamic and disciplined.

Private Session

One-on-one attention in a private setting for maximum focus, refinement, and results you can feel. Two to three sessions per week are optimal.

Duet Session

Bring a friend or partner to learn together. To ensure your safety and understanding of the equipment, five private sessions are required before booking duets. Some people enjoy booking one private and one duet session per week to increase variety and affordability.

Virtual Session

If you are traveling and wish to continue training you may book virtual sessions. All you need is floor space, a lawn, patio or a beach! We can add variety with a few simple props. The ability to continue training when you’re away from the studio is important, and it will become a new life skill which will serve you in the years ahead.

Committing to the method requires that you keep the work in your body, devoting at least two hours per week to maintaining the strength required to hold proper posture.
